Why is it important?

Well Functioning financial markets are seen as important for economic development and growth. At present, relatively little is known about how well stock markets in the Caribbean work. By assessing the reaction of stock prices to such a high profile event as a general election, sheds light on the functioning of stock markets in the Caribbean.

Perspectives

The results of the study suggest that there may be major deficiencies in the functioning of stock markets in the caribbean. As such, these markets may not be playing their desired role in fostering economic growth and development.
