Studying this topic is important since disengagement and deradicalisation are the transitional processes, which often require former violent extremists to face their past identity before being able to move forward to establish new roles or positions for their new lives.

Perspectives

This article portrays how individuals who undergone life changes in the context of deradicalisation and disengagement from terrorism should face double challenges from their former comrades and from their surrounding society. Any effort to prevent them to re-engage with their previous extremist groups should start from comprehending this situations so that we can treat them in more suitable ways.
