What is it about?

Over the last few decades, nursing literature has documented a global shortage of nurses. There is worldwide concern about this shortage, which is difficult to quantify, and great variations exist in the scope. This implies a dramatic increase in the need for nurses and the demand is expected to be greater than the growth in the supply. Thus, the aim is to explore and argue the relevance of strong evaluations for remaining in the nursing profession.

Why is it important?

Previous research has developed several models and given a broad picture of dimensions and factors related to the question of why nurses remain in the nursing profession. It is well documented that the question is important. Nevertheless, there is still a need to better understand impacting factors. To our knowledge, there are few studies which can be linked explicitly to nurses as understood as human beings with a capacity to base their evaluations on strong values. Such evaluations give opportunity to focus on the qualitative worth of different desires and contribute to distinguishing between senses of what is a good life.
