This study explores the difference in the phenomenon of moral distress in male and female registered nurses who practice in intensive care settings.

Why is it important?

Moral distress causes negative physical and emotional effects on nurses, decreased employee satisfaction and engagment, higher emplyees turnover, and poorer outcomes of care for patients and families.

Perspectives

My interest in this topic was based partly on my own professional experience of moral distress. As a nurse leader, I think it is critical that we work to understand this phenomenon, it’s causese and effects on patients and healthcare delivery.
