What is it about?

The article report on an interview study with stroke team members and the ethcial problems they experience when caring for patients dying due to unexpected sudden death by stroke. Three themes emerged covering three problematic areas from an ethical perspective; giving information, decide on care and support next of kin. Mutual trust can be seen as a red thread through the result.

The article show areas of concern for carers at stroke units when patients die due to acute stroke and highlights the impact of uncertainty in the situation; the uncertainty about the patients survival or imminent death. This uncertainty highly affects the situation and intervene in the the carers possibility to care for the patient.
