What is it about?

Our research used administrative data to measure how much patients with Lupus cost to insurers in Colombia. We found it is approximately 9 times the average annual premium received by health insurers for covering the public benefits package

Why is it important?

No study had reported estimations on the cost of patients living with Lupus and other chronic conditions in developing countries.

Perspectives

I believe reporting on direct costs may increase awareness of the limited resources that health systems have and where and to whom these are going.
