What is it about?
Cytokines are master regulators of inflammation in different tissues. In this work we show that several circulating cytokines in plasma could be used as biomarkers of kidney damage in patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Why is it important?
Renal involvement in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus is based on the diagnosis of renal biopsies, a procedure with certain complications. In this sense, it is necessary to identify biomarkers in different biological tissues that can be used as a reference for kidney damage in patients with SLE. In this work we show that some cytokines could be considered as excellent biomarkers of kidney damage.
