What is it about?
Within the field of library and information science (LIS), it is particularly interesting to study the articles published in this field’s academic journals from different viewpoints and applying different methodological approaches. This paper analyzes the articles published in two academic LIS journals in order to obtain a detailed view of the focus of thematic interest in library and information science.

Why is it important?
This type of study is useful in disciplines that are still in the process of consolidating or to verify the existence and emergence of subdisciplines.
Perspectives
Writing this paper we have discovered the evolution of the main subjects on library and information science between 2000 and 2013. We have described in detail how this subjects changed using a bibliometric study and also a thematic analysis of the journals, taking into consideration the keywords that have been used to index both publications’ contents and compares the descriptors and subject areas that are common to both publications.
