Why is it important?

Volunteer use in public libraries is becoming increasingly important in Britain, as a knee-jerk reaction to austerity measures. It is vital that we better understand what challenges exist, in order to ensure that we create a fully inclusive, high quality public library service in the future.

Perspectives

This article provided a clear understanding of what Public library managers felt about volunteer use, in addition to helping to establish close links for further case study research, which looked in detail at different stakeholder opinions, including volunteers, library users and front-line staff, and will be published shortly.
