What is it about?

Bog bursts are catastrophic mass movements, similar to mudslides which happen in raised bogs. Although there are some eye-witness accounts of these events from the 19th and 20th centuries in Ireland, we do not know how common these events were further back in the past because it is very difficult to recognize evidence for ancient bog bursts. In this paper we present evidence for what we think is a series of bog bursts which occurred over the last 3200 years.
