What is it about?

Linear actuator with conventional bearings show high friction what reduces efficiency. This paper shows how the bearing forces can be reduced and hence the efficiency can be increased significantly just by means of control without changing the mechanical system.

Why is it important?

This concept allows using (cheap) conventional bearings in high efficient linear actuators.

Perspectives

Active bearing force reduction reduces the requirements on mechanical bearings. It can significantly increase the life time of dry running linear bush bearings
