This paper improves the footprint generation method. Using the cross range of the vehicle as the performance index, a bank angle control law was developed based on the optimal control theory. By a pole-transformation operation, the solution of the optimal control problem was simplified.

Using the cross range of the vehicle as the performance index, a bank angle control law was developed based on the optimal control theory. By a pole-transformation operation, the solution of the optimal control problem was simplified. Compared to the existing virtual-target method, the proposed procedure avoids the need of setting virtual targets, which makes engineering application easier.
