Why is it important?

The described technique for the friction force measurement shows significant promise as a challenging technique; future research aims to improve on the current technology, which would result in faster measurements in a fired engine. Additionally, the lubricant behaviour is a critical factor, which is influenced by the temperature and pressure within the contact. This trend should also be examined during the running engine condition. These issues are the focus of ongoing research. Regarding the engine noise, measurements must also be obtained at the anti-thrust side of the cylinder block. As observed, the level of radiated noise and the piston slap depend on the nature of the piston assembly inside the clearance.
