What is it about?

The work is about the accuracy of the formulation of large displacement Finite Element analysis, very used by structural analysts in mechanical or civil engineering. The work determines when the methods used in commercial software are consistent by analysing the stress update procedure.

Why is it important?

This work finds out a very important inconsistency in large-displacement FE models used in many commercial codes, This knowledge is both important for both FE analysts and researcher. In the former case to choose a proper model for their analysis, in the latter to enhance the state-of-the-art of simulation models.

Perspectives

Writing this article has been very demanding for me and it has required a lot of time, especially to develop my own Finite Element library that allows me to test the different models. In any case I think that final result is absolutely important, since the relative difference among commercial software predictions in this type of analysis is very large, more than 50% of maximum displacement.
