What is it about?

Competitions are widely prescribed in policy, and enthusiastically adopted in practice, in school level entrepreneurship education. This article uses principles from Realist Evaluation to review and question outcomes from such programmes.

Why is it important?

The article demonstrates the usefulness of applying a theory based evaluation approach to a familiar activity to generate new insights. Our findings show that the positive results often promised in policy and guidance are not guaranteed and that more caution and nuance should accompany recommendations to teachers and schools.
