What is it about?
We investigated the epidemiological characterization of ARC in the Critically Ill Patient. In this study, we have shown that trauma, young age, and male sex were independent risk factors for ARC. ARC was present in 43.0% of the critically ill patients with normal serum creatinine levels.

Why is it important?
ARC is probably ubiquitous in certain critically ill patients. If not identified or if ignored, it will increment the risk of sub-therapeutic concentrations of hydrophilic antibiotics, leading to under-treatment of septic patients. Maximal or higher than normal dosing is needed to reach therapeutic levels and clinical cure.
