What is it about?

This article presents a Learning-based Approach (LbA) to analyze the extent of the influence of learning and knowledge generation on the quality of decisions. The results reveal that learning and (new) knowledge can equally enhance and worsen the quality of decision-making outcomes to different extents. Yet, these processes need to empower municipal officials engaged in routine practice through the generation of (spatial) knowledge on the physical and functional aspects of cities.

Why is it important?

Although current planning research acknowledges that learning and knowledge generation are key elements in decision-making, the actual extent of their influence is still uncertain, particularly in the challenging decision-making context of Southern cities.
