What is it about?

This paper concludes that the 2-parameter model exhibited nearly the same prediction ability with lesser measurable dimensions as the 4-parameter model. These models are unique and the study pioneering in the sense that apart from being the only models based on physico-chemical characteristics of disposed MSW to be reported in literature, they incorporate the effect of the depth of waste as an independent variable.

Why is it important?

The models obtained from this study will provide a new reference for other studies related to determination of energy content of disposed MSW in landfills, and be helpful for scientists, engineers and researchers involved in the design and operation of waste to energy systems.

Perspectives

These models can be a useful tools prior to carrying out pump test studies for setting up landfill gasLFG to energy recovery projects. Not only time will be saved but also there will be a reduction in the cost that would have incurred otherwise for costly experimentation.
