What is it about?

Measurement inaccuracy has always been a problem in suicide research. The increasing use of data linkage in cross-referencing suicide related events is ever more effectively dealing with this problem.

Why is it important?

Several studies in this month's issue of the CJP demonstrate ways in which record linkage can improve the accuracy of suicide research. Improved accuracy will lead to better prediction, more accurate assessment of risk factors and, ultimately, more effective prevention.

Perspectives

Canada has great, sometimes unexploited opportunities for record linkage at the population level - it is exciting to see these opportunities increasingly exploited in the interest of research and improved public health.
