What is it about?

This current concepts article provides a very thorough overview of the anatomy, biomechanics, bracing principles, and treatment of PCL injuries.

Why is it important?

This article is important because it provides up-to-date information on the current concepts of treating PCL injuries. Over the last decade, the treatment of PCL tears has advanced significantly. While in the past the results of PCL reconstruction outcomes were not good, newer techniques based on anatomic principles and biomechanically validated reconstructions, such as the double-bundle PCL reconstruction, have resulted in outcomes that are similar to those seen in patients who have ACL reconstructions.

Perspectives

We are proud of this article because it provided a thorough summary on the current quantitative anatomy, biomechanical principles, fixation angles, and early surgical outcomes for double-bundle PCL reconstructions. Double-bundle PCL reconstructions have been more recently validated as a more successful means to reconstruct PCL tears compared to the historical single-bundle PCL reconstructions.
