What is it about?

This study looked at the structural properties of the meniscal root attachments. All 4 meniscus root attachments were assessed. This study found that each meniscus root attachment has both a direct attachment as well as significant indirect fiber attachments. Restoration of the indirect fibers may be important to restore the overall strength of the meniscal root attachment.

Perspectives

This study demonstrated that all 4 meniscus root attachments have different overall strengths. In particular, the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus has several different attachments which contribute to its overall strength. Repairing it back to one specific location, without the accessory fibers, many not restore the overall strength of the meniscus root attachment over the long term.
