What is it about?
This paper addressed the confusion between certain Transactional Analysis models and outlines the rationale for this, more recent and up-do-date, model designed to replace the functional model. I then move on the outline transactions based on OKness making the theory congruent.

Why is it important?
A new model was necessary due to the confusion between the structural ego state and the functional ego state models. A theoretically rational model that is congruent with that of structural ego states was overdue. No longer are structure and function mixed, which previously caused confusion and meant that TA was simplified but in ways that did not work when looking deeper. This is the first model based on the theory of OKness and which can be used for a coherent understanding of behaviours and to improve communication.
Perspectives
I co-authored a book entitled "Working Together; Organizational Transactional Analysis and Business Performance, published by Gower, in which we developed the OK Modes model of communication. This article offers an in-depth rationale for its development. I am passionate about teaching and learning and will not teach something that doesn't hang together for me. This is what happened with the previous TA model of Functional Ego States and hence the development of this new model by Chris Davidson and myself. I hope you enjoy catching up with current theory.
