Why is it important?
While the western world has made strides in library automation, much of Sub Saharan Africa is still struggling and largely operates manual libraries. This paper highlights the significant contribution of library automation to development right from the community to the national level
Perspectives
This paper stems from an empirical research done while pursuing my Masters of Information Technology at the University of Pretoria. I was privileged to be supervised by Ass. Professor Shana Ponelis who is an accomplished researcher and writer. The paper exposes the day to day perspectives university libraries in a developing country like Uganda go through as they strive to modernize their libraries and make a contribution to national development
