What is it about?

This article critiques two misconceptions about racism. Firstly, that racism is endemic in Northern Ireland. Secondly, that racism can be overcome through improving race relations.

Why is it important?

The article shows that, while the approach of managing race relations can help to decrease incidents of racial hate, it cannot abolish racism. To abolish racism it is necessary to understand and overcome the systemic nature of racism.
