Perspectives
I have been researching contemporary media cultures and socio-political transformations, based on fieldwork in India and among the Indian diaspora in Europe. I found the popularity of television religion - especially the growing number of astrologers on daily television shows - an important outcome of liberalized media in India. Bringing theories of speculation, news and neoliberal temporalities, I explore this phenomenon based on ethnographic fieldwork inside the television newsrooms of Bangalore.
