What is it about?

The toileting habit profile questionnaire is a caregiver questionnaire designed to identify sensory issues related to defecation and toileting.

Why is it important?

Many children with functional defecation disorders (FDD) do not respond to conventional medical management and sensory issues are not usually considered in the overall evaluation and treatment of children with FDD. Having a tool to identify sensory issues related to FDD is important because the first step in dealing with sensory issues is correctly identifying and documenting them.

Perspectives

It gives me great satisfaction to see more and more pediatricians and gastroenterologists becoming interested in sensory issues in children with FDD. This is opening the door to a broader understanding of this common and often chronic disorder.
