What is it about?
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of playing a musical instrument in a school setting on EI, anxiety, and aggression in Korean elementary school children. Our findings suggest that performing music may reduce aggression and anxiety by enabling good psychological health and enhanced EI.

Why is it important?
Korean schools are structured around strict norms, rigid schedules, and the single goal is admission to a high-ranked university. The highly structured environment and fear of failure in such schools could make certain students feel anxious, depressed, nervous, or even bored. In response, we have developed programs to manage the emotional problems such as aggression or anxiety of children and adolescents to enable them to more effectively cope with stress. However, these programs have only limited benefits in reducing the aggression and stress of children and adolescents. We think that art-based intervention like performing music can be an effective alternative for our children and adolescents.
