The cultural assumptions that parents carry have significant influence on their parenting practices which impact on the learning processes and outcomes of their children

Perspectives

This is an IPA case study reporting the educational outcomes of four young musicians who have dual occupational identities. It is one of the many empirical research studies I published under the financial sponsorship of the Australian Postgraduate Award and Postgraduate Publication Award. It draws on a large sample of elite Chinese musician-educators, ordinary community musicians and amateur players. So far, there was no systematic research conducted to investigate the fusion of diverse cultures including Confucianism and Western psychological and religious culture on identity formation and music learning outcomes among Chinese musicians around the globe. This American study filled a research gap. Intercultural awareness and diverse East-West educational philosophies will be crucial for global educators and researchers to acquire.Cultural diversity is a less explored territory in music psychology and education research.
