What is it about?

Why is it important?

With a dismantling of physical characteristics of the frontier, the idea of Northeast India as a frontier territory has given way to the making of a post-frontier. However, social demands belie this development and want areas inhabited by indigenous people to be recognized as frontier-like areas.

Perspectives

The Inner Line system is only one among many colonial instruments that have been left behind as legacies and which continue to work in Northeast India. Writing this paper helped me to expand my understanding of the vast impacts that colonialism has made on this region.
