Why is it important?

For the first time an underlying pathology (histological and transmission electron microscopy together with synchrotron-based small-angle X-ray scattering analysis of stromal collagen) of tropical keratopathy in veterinary medicine is described.

Perspectives

Our group continues investigating the undelying lesions in this condition in monkey, dogs, mongoose and cats comparing with what is known in people with Rice's keratopathy (West Indian's keratopathy) in an effort to ellucidate the etiology of the lesions.
