Why is it important?

Its an innovative and unique initiative which improves the meat inspection outcome both regarding food safety and animal health surveillance.

Perspectives

This paper reflects a valuable initiative, adding up the effort and collaboration of many actors. It explores synergies between public administration, academia and businesses (slaughterhouses) for the benefit of the consumers (better diagnostic skills lead to better food safety) and the agricultural sector (better animal health surveillance). Moreover, although local, incidence data on pathologies diagnosed at the slaughterhouse is of interest to people involved in animal health.
