What is it about?

This study is about the prevalence rate of different forms of abuse in Pakistan, who are the abusers, what is the age of children being abused. It also explains the causes of child sexual abuse in Pakistan. Solution for resolving the issue of child abuse in Pakistan are also presented in Pakistan. This study provides estimates and measurements of child abuse in Pakistan. Prevalence of 4 main forms i.e Negect, physical abuse, emotional abuse & sexual abuse and 5 sub-forms of each of these abuse (total 20 sub-forms of abuse) are measured in this study. Overall, 81% children are affected by one or more than one form of abuse. By including the 5 sub-forms of these 4 main forms Prevalence of neglect is 40%, physical abuse 57%, emotional abuse 53% and sexual abuse 41%. Prevalence of child rape or forced intercourse is 8% in Pakistan according to findings.

Why is it important?

This is first known study on prevalence of child abuse in Pakistan. This study provides the basic data that how many children in Pakistan are abused and it also presents the serious policy recommendations for solving the problem of child abuse and child sexual abuse in Pakistan.

Perspectives

This study is about measuring the child child abuse in Pakistan and it is an effort for understanding the magnitude of problem of child abuse in Pakistan. This is a pioneer study on prevalence of child abuse in Pakistan.
