Why is it important?

As a multicultural country, Malaysia offers a wide variety of food across various ethnics and religions. It is also believed that besides family members, the relationship building among the community and ethnics are also centered around the food culture in this country. Thus, it is postulated that the challenges to adhere to dietary therapy are much greater in the local population and not limited to certain ethnic or single factor.

Perspectives

This study managed to identify several challenges hindering compliance of T2DM patients to dietary therapy. Understanding these issues is important for helping healthcare professionals to design a better dietary recommendation plan according to individual patients’ needs and goals.
