This publication presents a case study of how scholars at an academic institution engaged with and supported a knowledge exchange project designed to develop rural businesses in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The case discusses how the project engaged with and developed one rural business.

Why is it important?
This publication is important because it illustrates knowledge exchange processes in action and demonstrates why engaged scholarship models provide added value to rural businesses that contract orientated research carried out by consultants cannot. The study explores networked connections between academia, small business and the local Council. It is also important because the publication also acts as an assessment of the scheme.
Perspectives
This publication is of interest to me as an entrepreneurship scholar because it shares the action orientated field work of business school colleagues which would not normally be published. Such small scale research normally is written up as teaching cases or case studies which are only shared within one business school.
