What is it about?
Safety of NO added to the oxygenator of an ECMO circuit in children
Featured Image
Why is it important?
First report of NO added to the ECMO circuit
Perspectives
Animal and human studies identify NO an important mediator of acute ischemia and reperfusion injury at the cellular level. Adding NO to the ECMO circuit could potentially mitigate this response and improve end-organ function after ECLS initiation. Furthermore it reduced platelet aggregation and improve circuit clot formation.
