What is it about?

Teaching mathematics in an inclusive classroom with students who are visually impaired or blind can be challenging. In this publication, research results from many different fields are summarized to yield criteria for good teaching material and manipulatives under these circumstances, taking into account the needs of individual children (sighted or visually impaired) as well as the mathematical goals and the requirements of inclusive education.

The findings are amalgamated into an evaluation procedure that helps researchers and teachers to develop or adapt mathematical teaching material for students with visual impairments in inclusive classrooms. Both tactile and acoustic material is taken into account.
