What is it about?

This article relates the importance of moments of inspiration: Mountain Top Experiences, as we guide gifted individuals into a discovery of Self and as an enhancement of their spirituality. The article is based on the concept of Self as defined by Annemarie Roeper. The concept of spirituality is defined and discussed, and the role inspiration plays in this developing awareness is presented. Guidelines for creating a positive environment that values and prompts moments of inspiration are provided.

Why is it important?

An important development in considering the nature of gifted individuals is the interest in and the concern about the spirituality of gifted learners. This current interest in the spiritual nature of children, especially gifted children, sometimes discussed in terms of “spiritual intelligence” demands that we define out terms. This article also speaks to the importance of the role that moments of inspiration plays in this process. By its very nature, we cannot program moments of inspiration, however, we can develop a process of cultivating inspiration. Helpful guidelines are provided

Perspectives

An important development in the area of gifted education is realizing the emotional aspect of gifted giftedness. The works of Annemaire Reoper in term s of understanding the "Self" is extremely important here., is the work of Dabrowski. After working many years in gifted education, this reocnginition and action in the area of the spirituality of gifted students is a most welcome area of study and research.
