The article contributes to the understanding of the evolution of the process of democratization of access to music education and instrumental music education in Portugal.

Perspectives

Single aspects of music education in Portugal (pedagogies, pedagogues, school and university projects, a.s.o.) need to be understood within the broader perspective of the whole curricular and political panorama of music education. This article offers an interpretive view of historical, curricular and political change in the system of music education in Portugal in the past 8 years.
