What is it about?
This was an examination of strict and expressive conductors on the ratings of the identical ensemble performances by college student not in music. There was a difference among conductors. More importantly, while identical music was used in all cases, the performance was rated differently, depending on conductor expressivity.

Why is it important?
We need to understand that music performances are seen differently depending on whether you can see a conductor or not. In other words, seeing a videotape is a different experience than only hearing the work. Indeed, we would argue that they are two different experiences.
