What is it about?
The Fontan procedure has been applied in many patients with single-ventricle physiology. Structural and characteristic differences in the morphologically left and right ventricles influence the role of the systemic ventricle in the functionally univentricular heart and impact on postoperative outcomes. Mid- and long-term survival based on systemic ventricle morphology remains controversial.

Why is it important?
The study of mid- and long term survival of Fontan surgery in developing countries are scarce. Age and clinical profile were somehow different compared to patients in developed countries.
Perspectives
I hope this article will bring additional data of Fontan surgery worldwide, and give as many as information regarding the survival of Fontan procedure.
