What is it about?

This incision technique has been developed to resect calcific aortic valve without touching proximal anastomoses on the ascending aorta. Handling proximal anastomoses can cause coronary embolisation or graft failure, which can be fatal. I use this approach for "no touch" technique during aortic valve replacement in patients with patent proximal anastomoses.

Perspectives

I hope this article makes surgeons more confident during aortic valve surgery where aortotomy incision might impair proximal grafts.
