What is it about?

CT inner ear imaging studies from Japan suggest there are blockages in the endolymphatic compartment of the inner ears of patients with Meniere's disease compared with non-Meniere's ears, and that these may be due to detached otoconia from the saccule otolith organ. It is well accepted that benign paroxysmal postional vertigo (BPPV) is due to detached otoconia from the other otolith organ (the utricle).

Why is it important?

Based on own and other new data about the age of onset of Meniere's disease , being rare in children, occasional in teenagers, with majority between 30 and 60 years, and over the age of 60 in one third of patients, we noticed a remarkable similarity to the spread of onset ages for BPPV.
