What is it about?

Analysis of the political coverage of male and female politicians in the German press. We show that governing 'as a man' does not necessarily refer to male politicians only.

Why is it important?

After having Angela Merkel for 10 years as a chancellor it is necessary to understand what has changed in media coverage. Though women in politics are no longer exceptional, relying on gendered images of power and success nevertheless plays an important role in media discourse.
