What is it about?

Processes of convergence have attracted much attention in recent years, giving rise to a great deal of discussion in many fields, including mass media and journalism, where convergence represents a key analytical concept in understanding the reinvention of media organisations into multimedia organisations. On account of the particular challenges that PSB faces in the twenty-first century, European public service broadcasters have also started to draw the interest of ‘newsroom convergence’ researchers. In view of the need of doing further research on modern newsrooms of different scopes and sizes , the article pays attention to the recent convergent developments at the BBC Scotland.

Why is it important?

The research addresses the impact of convergence on news organisations from the particular perspective of its implications at the content production level. While the studies analysing convergence processes in terms of organisation and production have focused mainly on print media, this article pays attention to newsroom convergence developments in broadcasting, following previous contributions on other European public service broadcasters (NRK, VRT, EITB, CCMA and others).
