Why is it important?

This research helps to uncover the complexities of inclusion through the peace process (the Afghanistan Peace and Reintegration Program) examining the gaps between rhetoric and realities. It undermines homogeneous portrayals of women and their connections with violence and peace and points toward the formulation of more nuanced policy solutions.

Perspectives

This research derives from my participation in the design and implementation of the Afghanistan Peace and Reintegration Program. The experience problematised my understanding of processes of inclusion and of homogeneous depictions of the relationship between women and peace. It illustrates the violence of unintended consequences when the "politics of good intentions" go awry.
