What is it about?

Individuals high in attachment anxiety react with intense distress when their relationship is threatened, such as during relationship conflict. Benevolent sexism prescribes that men are dependent on the love of a woman to be happy, and that men should be chivalrous, protective, and reliable partners. We demonstrate across three studies that the care and devotion benevolent sexism promises women in romantic relationships attenuates highly anxious women's insecure reactions to relationship conflict.
