What is it about?

This is a fictional scenario but one that is informed by years of working experience. It encourages students to examine trade-offs and choice within public services and can be used as a critical thinking exercise Students are asked to evaluate five different options for the use of a piece of wasteland and make a single recommendation..

Why is it important?

Public services affect everyone on a daily basis. This scenario helps people understand some of the difficult choices, options, and strategic planning that face public services. However, it can be used with students at all levels and subjects, as it is highly relatable.

Perspectives

I have run this exercise many times and it has never failed to spark debate. Students find it highly engaging and very interesting.
