What is it about?
Films often convey contemporary ideas about gender—even historical romance films. This paper uses visually informed, critical discursive psychology to examine how the recent film adaptation of Far From the Madding Crowd constructs gender. These stories, although fictionalized, convey important messages about who our society values and devalues, including those who are "forgotten" from cultural memory.
