What is it about?

Mexico was one of many nations that feared their society suffered a suicide epidemic at the turn of the twentieth century. Youth and female suicide in particular confounded and shocked residents of Mexico City. Examining suicide in this time and place illuminates larger concerns about the rapid social and political changes unfolding in Mexico at the time. The health of the nation rested on the well being of youth, the future leaders of the nation.
