What is it about?

students struggle to fully understand mental health and wellbeing, because it is shrouded in mystery and complexity and not engaged with freely because of stigma and stereotypical attitudes. Culture provides a lens to understand the causes and interventions. Emerging adults face many barriers to accessing health care services including limited knowledge and stigma related to services, lack of confidentiality, fear of mistreatment, location of facilities and the high cost of services.

Why is it important?

Universities and government should actively engage with research evidence to inform policies and programs to improve the health and wellbeing of emerging adults.

Perspectives

Initially, I assumed that mental health and wellbeing was a topic that was widely accessible to emerging adults and all I was trying to understand was how they made meaning of it from developing perspective. this study demonstrated that due to stigma and a reactive stance to mental health, this topic is shrouded in mystery and misunderstanding and wellbeing is not an important consideration.
